Look at our field-based documentation of public restroom conditions across San Diego County map!

Our Audit Map:

The PSJ Audit Map was created to make public restroom locations throughout San Diego County easier to find and access. As part of PSJ’s mission, the map transforms research and data collection into a practical, publicly accessible resource that connects academic work with everyday community needs. By bringing restroom locations together in one interactive map, the project helps make sanitation infrastructure more visible and highlights the importance of access to public restroom facilities in creating more inclusive and equitable communities.

The PSJ Bathroom Auditing Website is a field-research tool developed by PSJ’s Annie Mewkill, MS, Graduate Researcher - Mapping Lead. It documents public restroom access and conditions across San Diego County. Unlike the public restroom map, which helps people locate facilities, this website focuses on collecting, evaluating, and verifying information about those facilities.

The mapping website helps people find public restrooms. The auditing page helps researchers and volunteers document what those restrooms are actually like. Together, the tools work like researcher magic.
